For over
a quarter of a century, Aung San Suu Kyi has peacefully fought for a free
Burma. Lovingly and respectfully called The Lady, the 66-year-old founder and
leader of the National League for Democracy and 1991 Nobel Peace Prize laureate
had been under house arrest for most of that time. Finally released in November
2010, Suu Kyi went on to win a landmark victory by being elected into the
Burmese parliament on April 1, 2012. This marks a huge turning point in a
country still struggling to get itself out from under military rule.
